Family Tradition

Hello fellow Hadley folk. Me and BG were talking last night about a family tradition we would like to give a try. I just wanted to run it by you guys and see if others would be interested. We would like each family to set aside $10 a month. At the end of the year we pick a family that could use it and help make their Christmas a little better.

I feel like this is something that could help us all remember what Christmas should really be about. These days it seems to be a lot more of "I want, I want." Most importantly, I want my kids to understand that Christmas should be more about giving than getting. This is a simple way to teach that.

Thanks

Let me know how you feel about it. If others have another idea that might better feel free to run it by us.

Since there hasn't been much activity on the site lately I thought I would share a new website with everyone even though I may be the only one that cares about it. The site is called Bonktown.com. It is a Woot.com type website only it is all cycling gear. Unlike Woot.com however, it is a constant Woot Off as the deals change every 30 minutes or so. This site is devoted to road cycling. Chainlove.com is devoted to mountain biking. In the right hand column you can also view the current deal for a variety of one deal at a time sites like Bonktown and Chainlove. So, if you are looking for any cycling or outdoor gear check it out. If you keep an eye on it you can get some really good deals.

Just thought that I would let everyone know that Amazon.com has a sale going on right now with Simpsons DVDs. If you are missing any of the seasons in your collection you can pick them up for just $14.99 each. That is one heck of a deal considering (with the exception of Costco) that you rarely see them for under $30.

White Elephant Queen

Every year for my work Christmas party Larry (our wood conservator)creates a unique "box" for the white elephant exchange. It is the coveted gift of the office so Larry always hides it in something else. This year he hid it in a gingerbread house & I was the one who got it. It is made from wood from the Joseph Smith Farm in Palmyra & from President Hinckley's Walnut tree. The top says "seek and ye shall find." If you unscrew the finial the top slides forward to allow the back panel to slide off. On the inside of the panel is President Hinckley's favorite quote. You can also take the top off to reveal a secret compartment. The bottom also slides off to reveal another secret compartment. I'm pretty happy with my prize, and I though Pa might like it too. I will add the pictures when I get back to work & have photoshop to resize them.

Here is a quote from the Tooele Transcript Bulletin (Yes, there is a newspaper like document produced in Tooele).

"Tooele County residents may have less college education than other Utahns, but their fertility rate is much higher."

In other words, we may not be very bright, but we know how to make babies.

The word is now offically out. All of the immediate family has been informed that me and Brittney are expecting a little addition to our home this June. This information can now be freely talked about with extended family and friends.

Brittney is now roughly 15 weeks along. We wont know if its a boy or a girl until she is 18-20 weeks along. We do know that there is only one little critter swimming around in there (Lucky). We hope to have this news available right before christmas but it might be a week or two too early. Fortunatly we know a few people that can check this status for us (there are some perks to working in radiology). Thus far, the baby seems to be healthy and growning like it should be.

More updates later.

Dr. Williams called me this morning. He said that my tests came back normal except for the RA marker. Normal goes up to 14 and mine came back at 15. He said he wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, but he does want to see me in a couple of weeks. I have an appointment on Jan. 14th (his next available). He said that it appears that I have "some sort of inflamatory arthritis" but he doesn't want to give it more of a diagnosis until he watches it longer.

You Have Been Assigned A Critical Mission This December

As some of you may know, the US mint started a special program about 10 years ago. They started making unique quarter designs for each state in the nation. The catch though, is that they only released 5 quarters each year. For you math wizzes out there, that would mean you would have to be collecting all the quarters for 10 years to get all the quarters. Yes, I know you could just start collecting now and get all the quarters from the past years, but that is beyond the point.

Well it has come down to this. It turns out Bg has actually been collecting all the different quarters for the last 10 years and is now only 1 quarter away from completing the amazing collection, which will surely be his ticket into heaven.

Your mission, is to find an Alaska quarter for Bg. I expect this to be everyone's top priority until the mission is complete.

RSS Section Added To The Site

I have built a new RSS Feed section for the site. It is still new and I will continue to work on it. I put it up so people could enjoy it and have an easy place to keep track of all their RSS Feeds. Feel free to add your favorites to the site so others can enjoy them too.

For those of you unfamiliar with RSS, it stands for Really Simple Syndication. Basically what it does is go to your favorite websites and grab the latest content. Then you can display it all in one spot to make it easy to find the new stuff you want to go look at.
